Volkswagen may introduce a brand-new SUV called the Tera in India — and it could become the most affordable German SUV in the country. That’s big.
Volkswagen already offers premium SUVs like the Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Tiguan. But both sit above ₹11 lakh. The Tera could bring German engineering to a much lower price bracket.
Industry buzz suggests a starting price between: ₹8.5 – ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom) If that happens, Tera would be Volkswagen’s most accessible SUV in India. That’s aggressive positioning.
Tera is likely to use the localized MQB-A0-IN platform — the same architecture underpinning: • Volkswagen Taigun • Škoda Kushaq This means solid build quality and high safety potential.
Most likely engine: 1.0L TSI turbo petrol Expected output: Around 115 PS 6-speed manual + automatic option Volkswagen is unlikely to offer diesel.
Expected features may include: ✔ 8–10 inch touchscreen ✔ Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay ✔ Digital instrument cluster ✔ 6 airbags (possible) ✔ ESP & ABS standard German safety focus remains key.
If priced aggressively, Tera could rival: -Hyundai Exter -Tata Punch -Maruti Suzuki Fronx But Tera’s USP? German badge value + driving dynamics.
Expect: • Sharp LED headlamps • Bold grille design • Clean European styling • Strong road presence Volkswagen usually keeps design classy — not flashy.
Early reports hint at a possible 2026 India launch. Official confirmation is awaited from Volkswagen. Testing could begin in late 2025.
If Volkswagen prices it right, Tera could shake up the budget SUV market. German engineering under ₹10 lakh? That’s serious value. Would you choose it over Tata or Hyundai?
